Enchanted by the sculptural potential inherent in the activity of painting, I began to explore the dynamics of illusion through the use of relief and the construction of shaped paintings. The first major solo exhibition of these works was in Montreal, at the Galerie Libre in 1970. The work titled Tipperary Triptych has 109 variations of conjunctions for hanging.
